We demand the RIGHT to KNOW!

Today is Black Tuesday. If this Secrecy/Information Bill goes through we are looking at rewinding the clock back to Apartheid. When information was limited and riddled with propaganda and freedom of expression was suppressed.

Information is knowledge and knowledge is power. We are being stripped of our rights.
My mom was a journalist during Apartheid and her stories are insane. We are about to face some dark days. Can you imagine not knowing about the corruption within our government and having no access to the truth? Just think about how capable our Government is of taking our country down the same road as Mugabe’s regime and not having the power to hold them accountable.
The passing of the ‘Protection of Information’ Bill would mean any journalist who reveals information to the public is not safe from the wrath of the law. These new laws would make it a crime to leak or publish or possess any information that is deemed classified by our Government. Journalists could face up to 25 years in jail.
Which means we have no voice.
If it passes, be prepared to fight for our right to know. What will they do next, ban free speech?
Wear black today in support of the Right to Know Campaign. Write to your newspapers, magazines, tabloids, write on your blogs, your social media networks.
Let your Government know that we are the people and we demand a free media.
